The 7 Most Common Cancers Diagnosed in Children

3. Wilms’ Tumor

Wilm’s Tumor, also known as nephroblastoma, is a cancer of the kidneys that almost exclusively affects children. Most children diagnosed with nephroblastoma are between the ages of three and four.

Although Wilm’s Tumor is only found in one of the two kidneys, it can occasionally spread to both kidneys. In the past this type of cancer has usually been related to a poor prognosis, in recent years medical advancements in both the diagnosis and treatment of Wilm’s Tumor has significantly improved the outlook for children diagnosed with this cancer. Fortunately the survival rate for Wilm’s Tumor is between 85 and 90 percent.
