The 7 Most Common Cancers Diagnosed in Children

2. Rhabdomyosarcoma

Rhabdomyosarcoma is a soft-tissue sarcoma (cancer that grows in the connective tissue in the body). These cells eventually become muscle tissue and develop into limb muscles and other muscles of the body that we control voluntarily.

Unfortunately, the majority of cases (about 40 percent) are found in and above the neck including the eye sockets and other parts of the head. Another large chunk of diagnoses are made for Rhabdomyosarcoma of the reproductive or urinary organs. Rhabdomyosarcoma is extremely uncommon and there are only a reported 350 diagnoses every year. Over fifty percent of Rhabdomyosarcoma are in children under the age of ten.
