Decreased Appetite
Many children are picky eaters and sometimes it is hard to know if your child is not eating because they do not like what is being served or if there is something else going on. Therefore, it is important to do your best to keep track of what your child is eating but also whether or not there are any changes in your child’s activity level. According to the Mid-Atlantic regional medical director, David Mathison, “Having high fever increases the body’s metabolic demand, so this means children need more energy and hydration than usual, which is difficult when kids are sick and don’t want to eat or drink.” In more extreme cases, a dehydrated child can end up in the hospital.
