2. Trouble Calling Things by the Right Name
Since dyslexia is a learning disorder that affects language use, it can have a grave impact on how those with it express themselves with language. Many will have difficulties in labeling something the right word. For instance, a child with dyslexia might call all four legged animals “dogs” or incorrectly associate some words with the wrong symbol.
Due to this decreased ability to label objects, dyslexic children are more likely to use more general terms such as “thing” or “stuff.” Of course, when first learning how to speak all children have difficulties in remembering certain words or labeling certain things (there is just so much to learn, they are bound to mess up here and there); however, there may be cause for concern if this happens more often than not.
