7 Parenting Techniques to (Try to) Get Toddlers to Cooperate

2. Show Empathy

This one should go without saying. Being empathetic can increase the likelihood that your child will listen to your orders. Being stressed and/or overworked can lead you to be less than ideal parent and can cause you to snap at your child. Therefore, we would suggest to instead taking the time to take a step back and make an attempt to relate to them on their level.

For example, if your child keeps pulling things off the shelf at the grocery store it might be helpful to explain to them that it isn’t fair to the people that work their to clean up after their mess. It might not be easy, but always try and remember that your children are also human beings looking for respect and empathy.
