5. Outline Consequences

Even at the age of two years old, children can understand simple reasoning. Therefore, it could be helpful to outline what specific consequences are to certain behaviours. For instance, telling them that it is cold out and they can get sick might remind them of why it is important to wear their winter coat outside.

Outlining consequences in this way has another benefit: your toddler isn’t simply just hearing demands and instead is able to gain a better understanding of the importance of listening.
